| Jailed for adultery and murder, the child forced to marry at 12 |
| 11.23.06 (10:18 am) [edit] |
Sakina was sold by her father to a 65-year-old man, who was killed after one beating too many. Now his family say they want revenge | | | Engaged at 7, married at 12, jailed on a murder charge at 14, Sakina has never known justice and seldom been free. But at least she is safe in captivity. Beyond the walls of her detention centre many people want her dead. The eldest daughter of a poor Afghan farmer, she was sold into marriage by her father to a 65-year-old stranger for a $1,400 (£750) dowry, a deal designed to pay off debts. “He was a very old man, without any teeth, and he was always cruel to me,” said Sakina, an alias. A striking, sharp-witted teenager wrapped in a coloured shawl, at first she displayed little evidence of trauma, though human rights officials and social workers say that most juvenile detainees in the country are scarred, both by their lives and subsequent experiences in the prison system. “He was very jealous and never let me out of the house, not even to see my family,” Sakina added. “He used to beat me with a stick or cable, sometimes twice a day.” The beatings started on her wedding night when her husband thrashed his 12-year-old bride for her sexual ignorance. One night there was a beating too many. Sakina woke to find the old man trying to throttle her with a rope. Her screams attracted her husband’s nephew, who burst into the room. There was a fight. The old man died of strangulation. Sakina and the nephew were jailed for murder. She was given an additional year for having an affair with the nephew, a charge she denies. | |

| Saddam: A Tribute |
| 11.06.06 (3:45 pm) [edit] |
|
...Living under tyranny may not be ideal, but it is not impossible. In the Soviet Union, life took on a character of its own, in which the human spirit managed to flourish in spite of the political constraints. The literature generated in those conditions can still inspire us. Today, many former Soviet citizens feel no more free under the yoke of global capitalism than they did before, and some would like to see the return of Stalinism. The people of China seem in no rush to jettison a regime that holds out the prospect of prosperity at the expense only of liberty. Even in Britain, our supposed attachment to our supposed freedom turns out to be tenuous. We seem content to toss aside ancient liberties in the face of a dubious war on terror, and we live, cheerily enough, under a regime of surveillance that the KGB might have envied. Saddam offered his people a harsh deal. Yet, their lives were at risk only if they chose to challenge his authority. Now, they die because of the sect to which they happen to belong. Soon, their country may fall prey to a savage civil war. If that happens, the Iranians will doubtless intervene, along, perhaps, with Turkey and Israel. No one can predict where that might lead, but the outcome is unlikely to be positive for peace, prosperity, justice or, indeed, human rights. If Saddam were still in power, he would have stopped this happening. Iraq's dissidents would have paid a price, but the rest of us would be a lot better off. As he goes to meet the hangman, the world has cause to rue his demise. Just absolutely amazing. Be sure to read the comments... The Guardian

| Shots fired in Turkey pope protest |
| 11.03.06 (8:34 am) [edit] |
|
ISTANBUL, Turkey (CNN) -- Police say they have arrested a man who allegedly fired a pistol into the air outside the Italian consulate in Istanbul, then shouted slogans in protest of Pope Benedict XVI's upcoming visit. The man, who was identified by police sources as Ibrahim Ak, according to CNN Turk, threw the gun on the grounds of the consulate shortly before his arrest on Thursday. "I don't want him here, if he was here now I would strangle him with my bare hands," the suspect, who identified himself as Ibrahim Ak, 26, told a Dogan news agency television camera as he was detained by police, according to The Associated Press. "I fired the shots for God," Ak said as he sat handcuffed inside a police van outside the consulate. "Inshallah (God willing), this will be a spark, a starter for Muslims." "God willing, he will not come, if he comes, he will see what will happen to him Inshallah," Ak said. No one was injured in the incident, which comes a day after Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan announced he would not meet the pontiff during his November 28-30 visit. "I believe (the shooting) is a very isolated and marginal act," chief Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi, told CNN. He said he did not believe it would jeopardize the planning of the pope's trip, which was being carried out calmly. Erdogan will be at a NATO summit during the pope's visit, but some see the move as a snub. The pope's trip follows a controversial speech in Germany in which he quoted a 14th-century emperor who said the Muslim Prophet Mohammed's teachings are "evil and inhuman." That speech in mid-September prompted widespread criticism from Muslims. The pope has made a series of increasingly apologetic statements since then. The religion of PeaceTM CNN

| Not Buying It |

I’m not going to get into a knockdown mud rassle with Allahpundit about it (or with Mr. Genial, for that matter), but I’m with Ace on this one. I just don’t buy John F. Kerry’s excuses, and I’m skeptical of—no, I scoff at, in fact, I mock—the claims that he deviated from a prepared speech. It just doesn’t pass the giggle test, after watching him deliver those lines. | Nine Of Ten Jihadis Agree: Vote Democrat |
| 11.02.06 (8:13 pm) [edit] |
|
Palestinian mass murderers and terrorist leaders agree: Vote Democrat. (Hat tip: LGF readers.) “Of course Americans should vote Democrat,” Jihad Jaara, a senior member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terror group and the infamous leader of the 2002 siege of Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, told WND. “This is why American Muslims will support the Democrats, because there is an atmosphere in America that encourages those who want to withdraw from Iraq. It is time that the American people support those who want to take them out of this Iraqi mud,” said Jaara, speaking to WND from exile in Ireland, where he was sent as part of an internationally brokered deal that ended the church siege. Jaara was the chief in Bethlehem of the Brigades, the declared “military wing” of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party. Together with the Islamic Jihad terror group, the Brigades has taken responsibility for every suicide bombing inside Israel the past two years, including an attack in Tel Aviv in April that killed American teenager Daniel Wultz and nine Israelis. Muhammad Saadi, a senior leader of Islamic Jihad in the northern West Bank town of Jenin, said the Democrats’ talk of withdrawal from Iraq makes him feel “proud.” “As Arabs and Muslims we feel proud of this talk,” he told WND. “Very proud from the great successes of the Iraqi resistance. This success that brought the big superpower of the world to discuss a possible withdrawal.” Abu Abdullah, a leader of Hamas’ military wing in the Gaza Strip, said the policy of withdrawal “proves the strategy of the resistance is the right strategy against the occupation.”

| Kerry in 72: Volunteer Army Would Perpetuate "War Crimes" |
| 11.02.06 (1:51 pm) [edit] |
|
Here’s a reminder that John F. Kerry’s anti-military remarks do not exist in a vacuum: Kerry’s ’72 Army Comments Mirror Latest. (Hat tip: Natan.) WASHINGTON (AP) - During a Vietnam-era run for Congress three decades ago, John Kerry said he opposed a volunteer Army because it would be dominated by the underprivileged, be less accountable and be more prone to “the perpetuation of war crimes.” ... In 1972, as he ran for the House, he was less apologetic in his comments about the merits of a volunteer army. He declared in the questionnaire that he opposed the draft but considered a volunteer army “a greater anathema.” “I am convinced a volunteer army would be an army of the poor and the black and the brown,” Kerry wrote. “We must not repeat the travesty of the inequities present during Vietnam. I also fear having a professional army that views the perpetuation of war crimes as simply ‘doing its job.’ “Equally as important, a volunteer army with our present constitutional crisis takes accountability away from the president and put the people further from control over military activities,” he wrote. UPDATE at 11/2/06 8:19:41 am: The New York Times, meanwhile, is running interference for Kerry by printing his alleged “prepared remarks” as an actual quote: New York Times Lies to Its Readers About the Content of Kerry’s Remarks. UPDATE at 11/2/06 8:36:25 am: Seymour Hersh wants us to know that John Kerry is right about the troops: “There has never been an American army as violent and murderous as the one in Iraq.” He claims to have seen video of atrocities—but Hersh has also admitted publicly that he thinks it’s OK to lie for political reasons. | Kerry's "Prepared Remarks" |
| 11.02.06 (1:26 pm) [edit] |
|
A reader forwarded a graphic demonstration of how far John F. Kerry’s “prepared remarks” (as shilled by the NYT) are from what he really said: The actual statement: You know, education, if you make the most of it, and you study hard, and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq. The New York Times version: Flubbed Joke Makes Kerry a Political Punching Bag, Again. Mr. Kerry’s prepared remarks to California students on Monday called for him to say, “Do you know where you end up if you don’t study, if you aren’t smart, if you’re intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush.” In his delivery, he dropped the word “us.” The necessary edits to get from one to the other: Note that the Times doesn’t even print Kerry’s actual remarks. UPDATE at 11/2/06 9:52:37 am: ABC News apparently thinks Kerry may be right: ABC News Agrees With Kerry- Troops Are Dumb. Via: LGF John Kerry is a war criminial douchbag.

| Will Media Report John Kerry’s History of Amending Misstatements? |
| 11.02.06 (10:50 am) [edit] |
|
Sen. John Kerry contends that his misstatements about America's military in Pasadena, California, on Monday were a "botched joke." To prove it, his staffers have disseminated text of the speech he was supposed to have given. With the article just published by the Associated Press concerning statements that John Kerry made back in 1972 concerning the military as reported by NewsBusters, there is another piece of the junior senator’s history the media need to share with the public demonstrating a history of such amendments of the record. As reported by the Boston Globe on June 19, 2003, during Kerry’s run for the Senate in 1984, he revised answers to a questionnaire that he had filled out for a nuclear disarmament group called Freeze Voter ’84. Kerry had been outscored in this questionnaire by his primary opponent, Rep. James M. Shannon. This significantly threatened his primary run. As the Globe reported: Then a strange thing happened. Paul F. Walker, Shannon's most prominent backer on the group's executive committee, graded the answers and laid out for Kerry campaign manager Paul L. Rosenberg both the flaws in Kerry's responses and what the "correct" answers should be. "Walker was confused about your answer" on funding the Trident submarine, Rosenberg wrote in an internal memo to Kerry, who had originally hedged in his opposition to funding new subs. "It is critically important that we get a 100 percent rating," Rosenberg wrote, in a memo that has not previously been made public. "You should explain how your position was misinterpreted so that he will correct the rating before it is distributed to the board tomorrow evening." Here is the actual May 23, 1984, memo from Rosenberg to Kerry explaining how he needed to alter his answers to win the primary. As the Globe reported, this was the key to Kerry beating Shannon: Kerry revised his answers, tied Shannon with a perfect score, and at the activists' meeting in late June denied Shannon the 60 percent majority he needed to secure the endorsement for himself. Instead, Shannon and Kerry shared the group's stamp of approval in the primary field that also included then-secretary of state Michael J. Connolly and former House speaker David M. Bartley. Of course, the rest is history, as Kerry ended up winning the primary, and won the Senate seat that November. Will the media report this now that Sen. Kerry is contending tBustershat he “botched” the joke written for his speech in Pasadena, California, while his aides disseminate the text of what he was supposed to say on Monday? Stay tuned. News Busters John Kerry is a prick.

| Renowned Scientist Defects From Belief in Global Warming – Caps Year of Vindication for Skeptics |
| 11.02.06 (9:47 am) [edit] |
|
October 17, 2006 Washington DC - One of the most decorated French geophysicists has converted from a believer in manmade catastrophic global warming to a climate skeptic. This latest defector from the global warming camp caps a year in which numerous scientific studies have bolstered the claims of climate skeptics. Scientific studies that debunk the dire predictions of human-caused global warming have continued to accumulate and many believe the new science is shattering the media-promoted scientific “consensus” on climate alarmism. Claude Allegre, a former government official and an active member of France’s Socialist Party, wrote an editorial on September 21, 2006 in the French newspaper L'Express titled “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” (For English Translation, click here: http://epw.senate.gov/fact.cf...;id=264835 ) detailing his newfound skepticism about manmade global warming. See: http://www.lexpress.fr/idees/... Allegre wrote that the “cause of climate change remains unknown” and pointed out that Kilimanjaro is not losing snow due to global warming, but to local land use and precipitation changes. Allegre also pointed out that studies show that Antarctic snowfall rate has been stable over the past 30 years and the continent is actually gaining ice. “Following the month of August experienced by the northern half of France, the prophets of doom of global warming will have a lot on their plate in order to make our fellow countrymen swallow their certitudes,” Allegre wrote. He also accused proponents of manmade catastrophic global warming of being motivated by money, noting that “the ecology of helpless protesting has become a very lucrative business for some people!” Allegre, a member of both the French and U.S. Academy of Sciences, had previously expressed concern about manmade global warming. "By burning fossil fuels, man enhanced the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which has raised the global mean temperature by half a degree in the last century," Allegre wrote 20 years ago. In addition, Allegre was one of 1500 scientists who signed a November 18, 1992 letter titled “World Scientists' Warning to Humanity” in which the scientists warned that global warming’s “potential risks are very great.” See: http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~sai/sciwarn.html Allegre has authored more than 100 scientific articles, written 11 books and received numerous scientific awards including the Goldschmidt Medal from the Geochemical Society of the United States. Allegre's conversion to a climate skeptic comes at a time when global warming alarmists have insisted that there is a “consensus” about manmade global warming. Proponents of global warming have ratcheted up the level of rhetoric on climate skeptics recently. An environmental magazine in September called for Nuremberg-style trials for global warming skeptics and CBS News “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley compared skeptics to “Holocaust deniers.” See: http://www.epw.senate.gov/fac...;id=264568 & http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/... In addition, former Vice President Al Gore has repeatedly referred to skeptics as "global warming deniers." This increase in rhetorical flourish comes at a time when new climate science research continues to unravel the global warming alarmists’ computer model predictions of future climatic doom and vindicate skeptics. 60 Scientists Debunk Global Warming Fears Earlier this year, a group of prominent scientists came forward to question the so-called “consensus” that the Earth faces a “climate emergency.” On April 6, 2006, 60 scientists wrote a letter to the Canadian Prime Minister asserting that the science is deteriorating from underneath global warming alarmists. “Observational evidence does not support today's computer climate models, so there is little reason to trust model predictions of the future…Significant [scientific] advances have been made since the [Kyoto] protocol was created, many of which are taking us away from a concern about increasing greenhouse gases. If, back in the mid-1990s, we knew what we know today about climate, Kyoto would almost certainly not exist, because we would have concluded it was not necessary,” the 60 scientists wrote. See: http://www.canada.com/nationa... “It was only 30 years ago that many of today's global-warming alarmists were telling us that the world was in the midst of a global-cooling catastrophe. But the science continued to evolve, and still does, even though so many choose to ignore it when it does not fit with predetermined political agendas,” the 60 scientists concluded. In addition, an October 16, 2006 Washington Post article titled “Climate Change is Nothing New” echoed the sentiments of the 60 scientists as it detailed a new study of the earth’s climate history. The Washington Post article by reporter Christopher Lee noted that Indiana University geologist Simon Brassell found climate change occurred during the age of dinosaurs and quoted Brassell questioning the accuracy of computer climate model predictions. “If there are big, inherent fluctuations in the system, as paleoclimate studies are showing, it could make determining the Earth’s climatic future even harder than it is,” Brassell said. See: http://www.washingtonpost.com... Global Cooling on the Horizon? In August, Khabibullo Abdusamatov, a scientist who heads the space research sector for the Russian Academy of Sciences, predicted long-term global cooling may be on the horizon due to a projected decrease in the sun’s output. See: http://en.rian.ru/russia/2006... Sun’s Contribution to Warming There have also been recent findings in peer-reviewed literature over the last few years showing that the Antarctic is getting colder and the ice is growing and a new 2006 study in Geophysical Research Letters found that the sun was responsible for up to 50% of 20th-century warming. See: http://www.agu.org/pubs/cross... “Global Warming” Stopped in 1998 Paleoclimate scientist Bob Carter has noted that there is indeed a problem with global warming – it stopped in 1998. “According to official temperature records of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in the UK, the global average temperature did not increase between 1998-2005. “…this eight-year period of temperature stasis did coincide with society's continued power station and SUV-inspired pumping of yet more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere,” noted paleoclimate researcher and geologist Bob Carter of James Cook University in Australia in an April 2006 article titled “There is a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998.” See: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/op...;sSheet=/news/2006/04/09/ ixworld.html “Global?" Warming Misnamed - Southern Hemisphere Not Warming In addition, new NASA satellite tropospheric temperature data reveals that the Southern Hemisphere has not warmed in the past 25 years contrary to “global warming theory” and modeling. This new Southern Hemisphere data raises the specter that the use of the word “global” in “global warming” may not be accurate. A more apt moniker for the past 25 years may be “Northern Hemisphere” warming. See: http://motls.blogspot.com/200... Alaska Cooling According to data released on July 14, 2006 from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the January through June Alaska statewide average temperature was “0.55F (0.30C) cooler than the 1971-2000 average.” See: http://www.publicaffairs.noaa... Oceans Cooling Another bombshell to hit the global warming alarmists and their speculative climate modeling came in a September article in the Geophysical Research Letters which found that over 20% of the heat gained in the oceans since the mid-1950s was lost in just two years. The former climatologist for the state of Colorado, Roger Pielke, Sr., noted that the sudden cooling of the oceans “certainly indicates that the multi-decadal global climate models have serious issues with their ability to accurately simulate the response of the climate system to human- and natural-climate forcings.“ See: http://climatesci.atmos.colos... Light Hurricane Season & Early Winter Despite predictions that 2006 would bring numerous tropical storms, 2006’s surprisingly light hurricane season and the record early start of this year’s winter in many parts of the U.S. have further put a damper on the constant doomsaying of the global warming alarmists and their media allies. Droughts Less Frequent Other new studies have debunked many of the dubious claims made by the global warming alarmists. For example, the claim that droughts would be more frequent, severe and wide ranging during global warming, has now being exposed as fallacious. A new paper in Geophysical Research Letters authored by Konstantinos Andreadis and Dennis Lettenmaier finds droughts in the U.S. becoming “shorter, less frequent and cover a small portion of the country over the last century.” http://www.worldclimatereport... Global Warming Will Not Lead to Next Ice Age Furthermore, recent research has shown that fears that global warming could lead to the next ice age, as promoted in the 2004 Hollywood movie “The Day After Tomorrow” are also unsupportable. A 2005 media hyped study “claimed to have found a 30 percent slowdown in the thermohaline circulation, the results are published in the very prestigious Nature magazine, and the story was carried breathlessly by the media in outlets around the world…Less than a year later, two different research teams present convincing evidence [ in Geophysical Research Letters ] that no slowdown is occurring whatsoever,” according to Virginia State Climatologist Patrick Michaels, editor of the website World Climate Report. See: http://www.worldclimatereport... ‘Hockey Stick’ Broken in 2006 The “Hockey Stick” temperature graph’s claim that the 1990’s was the hottest decade of the last 1000 years was found to be unsupportable by the National Academy of Sciences and many independent experts in 2006. See: http://www.epw.senate.gov/pre...;id=257697 Study Shows Greenland’s Ice Growing A 2005 study by a scientist named Ola Johannessen and his colleagues showed that the interior of Greenland is gaining ice mass. See: http://www.co2science.org/scr... Also, according to the International Arctic Research Institute, despite all of the media hype, the Arctic was warmer in the 1930’s than today. Polar Bears Not Going Extinct Despite Time Magazine and the rest of the media’s unfounded hype, polar bears are not facing a crisis, according to biologist Dr. Mitchell Taylor from the Arctic government of Nunavut. “Of the 13 populations of polar bears in Canada, 11 are stable or increasing in number. They are not going extinct, or even appear to be affected at present,” Taylor wrote on May 1, 2006. See: http://www.thestar.com/NASApp...;c=Article&cid=114643 3819696&call_pageid=9 70599119419 Media Darling James Hansen Hypes Alarmism As all of this new data debunking climate alarmism mounts, the mainstream media chooses to ignore it and instead focus on the dire predictions of the number-one global warming media darling, NASA’s James Hansen. The increasingly alarmist Hansen is featured frequently in the media to bolster sky-is-falling climate scare reports. His recent claim that the Earth is nearing its hottest point in one million years has been challenged by many scientists. See: http://www.co2science.org/scr... Hansen’s increasingly frightening climate predictions follow his 2003 concession that the use of “extreme scenarios” was an appropriate tactic to drive the public’s attention to the urgency of global warming. See: http://naturalscience.com/ns/... Hansen also received a $250,000 grant form Teresa Heinz’s Foundation and then subsequently endorsed her husband John Kerry for President and worked closely with Al Gore to promote his movie, “An Inconvenient Truth.” See: http://www.heinzawards.net/sp... & http://www.columbia.edu/~jeh1/dai_complete.pdf American People Rejecting Global Warming Alarmism The global warming alarmists may have significantly overplayed their hand in the climate debate. A Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll this August found that most Americans do not attribute the cause of any recent severe weather events to global warming, and the portion of Americans who believe that climate change is due to natural variability has increased over 50% in the last five years. Senator Inhofe Chastises Media For Unscientific & Unprincipled Climate Reporting Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, commented last week on the media’s unfounded global warming hype and some of the recent scientific research that is shattering the so-called “consensus” that human greenhouse gas emissions have doomed the planet. “The American people are fed up with media for promoting the idea that former Vice President Al Gore represents the scientific ‘consensus’ that SUV’s and the modern American way of life have somehow created a ‘climate emergency’ that only United Nations bureaucrats and wealthy Hollywood liberals can solve. It is the publicity and grant seeking global warming alarmists and their advocates in the media who have finally realized that the only “emergency” confronting them is their rapidly crumbling credibility, audience and bottom line. The global warming alarmists know their science is speculative at best and their desperation grows each day as it becomes more and more obvious that many of the nations that ratified the woeful Kyoto Protocol are failing to comply,” Senator Inhofe said last week. See: http://www.epw.senate.gov/pre...;id=264616 “The mainstream media needs to follow the money: The further you get from scientists who conduct these alarmist global warming studies, and the further you get from the financial grants and the institutions that they serve the more the climate alarmism fades and the skepticism grows,” Senator Inhofe explained. Eco-Doomsayers’ Failed Predictions In a speech on the Senate floor on September 25, 2006, Senator Inhofe pointed out the abject failure of past predictions of ecological disaster made by environmental alarmists. “The history of the modern environmental movement is chock-full of predictions of doom that never came true. We have all heard the dire predictions about the threat of overpopulation, resource scarcity, mass starvation, and the projected death of our oceans. None of these predictions came true, yet it never stopped the doomsayers from continuing to predict a dire environmental future. The more the eco-doomsayers’ predictions fail, the more the eco-doomsayers predict,” Senator Inhofe said on September 25th. See: http://epw.senate.gov/speechi...;id=263759 Related Links: For a comprehensive review of the media’s embarrassing 100-year history of alternating between promoting fears of a coming ice age and global warming, see Environment & Public Works Chairman James Inhofe’s September 25, 2006 Senate floor speech debunking the media and climate alarmism. | John Kerry: The Face of Untrustworthy Democrats |
| 11.01.06 (9:06 pm) [edit] |
|
"I apologize to no one," snarled Senator John F. Kerry of Massachusetts, the failed 2004 Democratic Party presidential standard-bearer, as he struggled on Halloween to remove the foot he had once again stuffed into his own mouth. (Having grown up speaking French in an elite private Swiss boarding school, the haughty Mr. Kerry probably was tempted to invoke the Edith Piaf theme song of post-Nazi-collaborationis t France: Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien, "I regret nothing.") Kerry's latest faux pas came during a campaign appearance in Southern California. "You know," he told a group of college students, "education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq." President George W. Bush promptly called Kerry's remarks "insulting and shameful" and said that America's soldiers in Iraq deserve an apology. Former Navy pilot and Vietnam Prisoner of War Senator John McCain of Arizona called on Kerry to apologize. Mr. Kerry responded by claiming his bizarre statement was "a botched joke about the president and the president's people," intended to impugn President Bush, not our troops, for lack of diligence and intelligence. Kerry, who aspires to be the Democratic presidential candidate again in 2008 (after being outsmarted and beaten in 2004 by Bush) now says, in effect, that he was merely implying he is smarter and better educated than the President. The facts show otherwise. Both Kerry and Bush attended Yale University, but Bush got slightly better grades than Kerry. Bush then earned a Harvard MBA. During the Vietnam War, both Naval officer Kerry and Air National Guardsman Bush took military intelligence tests. These tests measured Bush's I.Q. a few points higher than Kerry's. (Kerry, a lifelong master at excuses, claims this happened only because he had been drinking heavily the night before he took the test, which itself shows a profound lack of intelligence.) Kerry's pretensions of being a military hero were dashed by truth-telling Swift Boat veterans who served with him in Vietnam. Kerry's anti-war activism made him a darling of the anti-American Left. But Kerry's lies about his fellow soldiers, used as leftwing propaganda, encouraged his new comrades to keep fighting. Kerry thus prolonged the Vietnam War, and this killed thousands more Americans. Kerry's accusation that our troops in Iraq are "terrorizing" people has given aid and comfort to our Islamo-fascist enemies. Kerry's attacks encourage Islamists to keep up their own bloody "Tet offensive," killing Americans to tilt our elections to the cut-and-run Democratic Party. Ironically, Kerry modeled himself and his career path on President John F. Kennedy. But Kennedy committed the first 17,000 armed U.S. troops into a Vietnam War Kerry sought fame by opposing. Kerry continues to prate that President Bush should either have avoided Iraq or committing far more military force there. But the liberal press has taken care not to mention Kerry's hypocrisy. Senator Kerry, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, voted to authorize Mr. Bush's actions but then voted against the supplemental appropriation to supply our troops with sufficient weapons, body armor and other necessities. During the 2004 campaign Kerry was caught on camera telling one audience that he had voted for the war before he voted against it. He was and is, therefore, the perfect poster boy for untrustworthy Democratic leadership. As a newly elected United States Senator from the nation's most liberal state, Kerry rushed to Nicaragua to embrace Marxist dictator Daniel Ortega days before Ortega flew to Moscow to pledge his allegiance to the Soviet Union. But despite Kerry's long service as a rubber stamp second vote for his state's senior Democratic Senator Edward M. Kennedy, he has been a failure as a lawmaker. No landmark piece of legislation or policy achievement carries Kerry's name. Senator Kerry chaired rigged hearings in 1991 to give Communist Vietnam a clean bill of health concerning American POWs, ending U.S. efforts to free any who remained, and this opened the way for companies to do business with that dictatorship. A year later, Communist Vietnam awarded a contract worth almost a billion dollars to John F. Kerry's cousin and his company. If Democrats win control of the U.S. Senate on November 7, capitalism-hating Kerry would likely become chairman of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee where he is now Ranking Democrat. He might also become chair of Senate subcommittees on Oceans, Fisheries, and the Environment (overseeing Global Warming) and on East Asian and Pacific Affairs (overseeing U.S. policy towards China, North Korea, Japan and Taiwan, among other nations). Kerry's only significant life achievement, and the source of his political status, is that he seduced two incredibly wealthy women into marrying him. The first, a Massachusetts Brahmin, he courted at her family's palatial villa in Italy. He separated from her but continued to live on her money. Kerry then found an even richer wife, the African-born heiress to her deceased Republican Pennsylvania Senator husband's Heinz ketchup fortune of more than half a billion dollars. When in private, John and Teresa Heinz Kerry reportedly speak French, not English. A globalist, Kerry once told a grieving mother to be proud her American soldier son had died while, at President Bill Clinton's orders, wearing the blue beret of the United Nations. In 2004, backed with truckloads of cash from his wife and from a front man for the theocratic, nuclear-weapon-seeking rulers of oil-rich Iran, Kerry came close to being elected President. The good news about Mr. Kerry's latest slip of his forked tongue is twofold. It has probably eliminated any chance that he could be re-nominated or elected President in 2008. And, as he selfishly put his own ego and ambition above the interests of his party, Senator Kerry's contemptuous remarks about our soldiers and President reminded the American people just how loony Left today's Democratic Party has become. Haughty John Kerry may have cost his party one or both houses of Congress on November 7. NewsMax John Kerry is a prat.

If you can believe this, we have yet another version of John Kerry’s excuse. By my count, this is the fourth version of what he really meant to say: Just for the sake of sweet sweet context, here’s what he actually said to an audience of young Democrats at a rally for California gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides: You know, education, if you make the most of it, and you study hard, and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.
Via: LGF Make up your mind, dickhead. Which is it, captain flip-flop? So, attacking the Commander in Chief is fair game, but if you get called on it, it's the "Right-Wing attack machine..." You liberal assholes are defending a SELF-PROFESSED war criminal? Speaks volumes...

| DOJ Investigating Sony for RAM Price-fixing |
| 11.01.06 (5:12 pm) [edit] |
By Scott M. Fulton, III, BetaNews October 31, 2006, 4:27 PM Add to the extraordinarily long list of woes afflicting consumer electronics giant Sony the revelation today that the US Dept. of Justice will be investigating it, along with market rivals Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Samsung, and Cypress Semiconductor, in conjunction with a probe into alleged price fixing in the static RAM (SRAM) market. It is the latest extension of a federal probe that has already netted some big fish, and cost their employers dearly: Last March, three executives from Samsung agreed to plead guilty to several counts of price fixing in the DRAM market. Even so, they had to spend up to eight months in federal prison, and pay fines of up to $250,000 apiece. Just two weeks ago, two more Samsung officials were indicted in the same scheme, along with a third from Hynix Semiconductor. This is the first time Sony has been touched by this two-year-old probe, which has also impacted Micron Technology and Infineon. According to the Justice Dept., Samsung was at the center of a DRAM price fixing scheme where officials from that company met with their counterparts with other manufacturers, and agreed upon a basic set of prices they would all charge their suppliers. An official with Micron reportedly served as the DOJ’s informant, in exchange for reduced penalties. The government has apparently extended the probe to see whether Samsung’s activities, which were apparently at the center of the scheme, extended outside the realm of DRAM. No indictments have been issued, and Sony states it will cooperate fully with the Justice Dept. If officials from Sony did participate in a Samsung scheme, it apparently didn’t do much good for the company, anyway. Reportedly, Sony’s total SRAM sales last year worldwide amounted to $28 million – literally a half of a tenth of its overall sales. Semiconductor industry analysis firm iSuppli believes there may be little evidence of manufacturers actually wanting to participate in a price fixing scheme regarding a segment of the memory market that is in such decline. In a report issued two weeks ago, following the DOJ’s announcement of its investigation of Mitsubishi, iSuppli analyst Mark DeVoss reported market revenue for the entire SRAM industry in 2005 was $2.7 billion, versus $25 billion for the DRAM industry. DeVoss went on to forecast a gradually increasing decline in compound annual growth, to the point where SRAM will be earning only $1.9 billion by 2010. The reason for this decline has to do, iSuppli believes, with changes in the dynamics of computer architecture. "SRAM...at one time was used extensively as a standalone device, closely coupled to the computer microprocessor," DeVoss writes. "Unfortunately, the SRAM’s high performance comes as a result of its use of a very large four- to six-transistor per bit array, which consumes a large amount of die area.” Flash memory, by contrast, consumes one transistor per bit, which makes it more compatible with shrinking designs as processors move from 90 nm to 65 nm architecture." "With the stand-alone SRAM market in decline," he goes on, "and with the part not having a significant impact on computer system costs, iSuppli is doubtful whether the DOJ investigation will provide any benefit to anyone – except for the lawyers who are sure to collect fat fees from the ensuing rounds of litigation." There may be at least one significant impact, being felt right now by Sony, whose sensitivity to such scrutiny may be at an all-time high. Near the end of trading on the NASDAQ exchange, Sony stock value was down about 1% at $41.15, continuing a downward slide that began in April, when trading value peaked above $52 per share. At that time, concerns over the company’s continuing delays to its PlayStation 3 and Blu-ray products -– once flagged as the keys to the company’s entire future in consumer electronics -– started casting a bleak shadow on the company’s hopes. If no indictments emerge from this investigation, look for Sony to play that story for all it's worth. Beta News
