Prohibition on celebrating the festivals of the kuffaar
12.22.06 (5:29 pm)   [edit]
Question:
Is it permissible for Muslims to take part in their festivals, such as Christmas?

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

It is not permissible for the Muslim to join the kuffaar in their festivals and to express joy and happiness on these occasions, or to take the day off work, whether the occasion is religious or secular, because this is a kind of imitating the enemies of Allaah, which is forbidden, and a kind of co-operating with them in falsehood. It was proven that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” And Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Help you one another in Al‑Birr and At‑Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allaah. Verily, Allaah is Severe in punishment”[al-Maa' idah 5:2]

We advise you to refer to the book Iqtidaa’ al-Siraat al-Mustaqeem by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him), for it is very useful on this topic. [Translator’s note: This book is available in English under the title “The Right Way,” published by Darussalam, Riyadh].

And Allaah is the source of strength. May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions, and grant them peace.

Christmas and kuffaars...

Ruling on having pubic hair removed with a laser by a female doctor
12.22.06 (4:05 pm)   [edit]
Question:
I have too much hair in my armpits and around the private parts. Is it permissible to uncover it in the presence of a female doctor to remove it with a laser? Please note that the hair is very thick and it is too difficult to remove with a razor or by plucking, which irritates the skin.

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

A woman is obliged to cover her ‘awrah before those for whom it is not permissible to see it. The woman’s ‘awrah with regard to other women is the area between the navel and the knee, according to the majority of fuqaha’.

It is permissible to uncover the ‘awrah in cases of necessity, such as medical treatment, but that is conditional upon the treatment being absolutely necessary in the case of the most private part of the ‘awrah.

Based on that, there is nothing wrong with removing armpit hair with a laser, so long as that will not cause any harm.

With regard to having pubic hair removed by a female doctor, that is subject to the condition that there be a real need for that, such as if there is a lot of hair, and other methods such as plucking or shaving will not work, and you cannot remove it yourself by using a laser under the doctor’s instructions, so as to avoid her looking at your ‘awrah.

Al-‘Izz ibn ‘Abd al-Salaam (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: Covering the ‘awrah and pudenda is obligatory and is one of the best of customs, especially for non-mahram women. But it is permissible in cases of necessity and need. Examples of need include each spouse looking at the other, or doctors looking in the event that medical treatment is required. Examples of necessity include treating severe wounds. The condition of extreme necessity is  stipulated with regard to looking at the pudenda that are not stipulated with regard to looking at any other part of the ‘awrah, because of the abhorrence of looking at it, and the conditions of necessity and urgency are stipulated with regard to looking at the pudenda of women that are not stipulated with regard to looking at the pudenda of men, because of the fear of fitnah that is connected to looking at women’s pudenda. By the same token, looking at the part of the thighs that is near the knees is not like looking at the buttocks. End quote from Qawaa’id al-Ahkaam (1/165).

Al-Sharbeeni al-Khateeb said: It should be noted that what is forbidden with regard to looking and touching is that for which there is no need. But in the case of need, looking and touching are permissible for cupping and treatment, even in the private area, because of extreme need, because prohibition in that case would cause a great deal of hardship. The Hanbalis regarded as a case where it becomes permissible to uncover the ‘awrah: shaving the pubic hair for one who is unable to shave it himself, as was mentioned by Ibn Muflih (may Allaah have mercy on him) in al-Furoo’ (5/153).

And Allaah knows best.

I'm sure it does...

Privacy Groups Get Terrorist Watch List Nixed
12.22.06 (3:02 pm)   [edit]

I’m sure it won’t be long before the ACLU applauds this.

AJ Strata tells us:

Thanks to some privacy groups who more concerned with our government knowing anything about them - as opposed to knowing enough about people travelling here to protect us from attack - it appears the terrorist watch list has been removed from our national defenses:

Just in time for your holiday travels. I don’t know about you, but I feel much safer.

The Washington Post announces it to the world, and the terrorists:

Secure Flight, the U.S. government’s stalled program to screen domestic air passengers against terrorism watch lists, violated federal law during a crucial test phase, according to a report to be issued today by the Homeland Security Department’s privacy office.

The agency found that by gathering passenger data from commercial brokers in 2004 without notifying the passengers, the program violated a 1974 Privacy Act requirement that the public be made aware of any changes in a federal program that affects the privacy of U.S. citizens. “As ultimately implemented, the commercial data test conducted in connection with the Secure Flight program testing did not match [the Transportation Security Administration’s] public announcements,” the report states.

….

Congress has halted Secure Flight, except for testing, until it can allay privacy and security concerns.

The report notes that TSA eventually revised its public notice about the program to reflect more closely the program itself. But it also suggests that Secure Flight will run afoul of the law again unless it follows a set of recommendations, including being transparent about the program’s collection and use of passengers’ personal information.

Meanwhile, TSA are reporting thousands of missing jackets and badges!!!

Disturbing new evidence reveals a threat to our homeland security is worse than originally thought.
The News Four WOAI Trouble Shooters first uncovered records last May showing 1400 airport security badges and uniforms are missing from airports here and across the country.
Now, new information obtained by Trouble Shooter Brian Collister shows a dramatic increase in the total number.

Now, we’ve received new records revealing the number of missing badges and uniforms has more than doubled and is now at 3719.

After our initial investigation, a source within TSA told us agency officials sent out an email urgently asking every airport security director to immediately report any missing items they have not already reported to TSA headquarters.

Also, don’t think of switching to the NY Transit!

I don’t know about you, but I feel “safe and free” now. You know, if we allow the possibility of people’s personal information to be screened just for the sake of safety…the terrorists have already won! Right? I heard that somewhere. Oh well….hope everyone has a safe Christmas! As AJ Strata reminds us…We have completely opened up air transportation inside this country to anyone with a credit card and a desire to fly.

Merry Christmas, terrorists.
