Bonfire of the inanities
02.20.06 (12:30 pm)   [edit]
By John Burtis
Sunday, February 19, 2006

When Harry Whittington strode out of the Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, wearing a blazer, a crisp white shirt and a smile, as well as a bruise and a few small scabs, to face the media last Thursday, the whole artful and painfully constructed edifice of the liberal communications industry and their Democratic hand maidens came crashing down around them.

With Harry walking into the daylight under his own power, alone, sans wheelchair, without an iron lung, without a company of white suited orderlies and paramedics to brace him, with nary an IV bottle and hose in view, without sunglasses, without constant medical attention, without a single tremor or palsied movement, without a give-away halt to his gait, with not a single visible bandage in sight, with his hair combed perfectly, the jig was up on all of the liberal media’s monkey business and clowning around.

It also became painfully obvious, even for the most backward and ill educated red state rube, that the daily death watch was over, that the high stakes mortality pool had come to an end, that the heart attack which was expected to claim the life of Mr. Whittington was firmly relegated to the past and that the high-temperature media frenzy was instantly put on ice. And, further, that this particular instrument of destruction - this latest and greatest, almost nuclear, weapon, which had fallen into the hands of the Democrats and their media tools courtesy of the Vice President, who appears to be so heedless of their power and influence that he tended to his friend before he deigned to inform them, the loyal liberal protectors and Myrmidons of progressive thought - was spent.

not sure this is the point, thoo.

the point isn't that cheney is killing his friends. the point is that cheney is out peppering his friends with birdshot while the inane war continues; that bush is lounging at trent lott's rebuilt palace while the masses of displaced new orleans homeless are out fending for themselves.

you arent elected pres. to serve your needs or the needs of your friends. i'm not sure kerry would have made great pres. fodder; i'm not sure this is political party issue, either--at least not anymore.

rhetoric is useful during election campaigns, i guess, but bush is no longer seeking re-election. that's why his confederates in the congress are no longer happy with bush's performance. calling the media "liberal" misses the point--and it's pointless, now. the media is making bucks, always made bucks, on the oddities of the white house. i dont really care whose face vp mistakenly rips to tatters. but it makes me uncomfortable that he's stalking quail while the pres. is selling ports and forgetting that people are dying in a country that no longer exists.

and still, i can't help but like that you're paying attention to what the media is doing. most folk listen or don't without paying attention. i just wish that everyone would objectively pay attention.

remember how the media took advantage of clinton? the media is self-serving. i can accept that, i just don't like all the party propaganda that we the critics of the world like to warp unevenly to our own purposes. it has to be evenhanded, or there will never be any dialogue.

Wow. So much incorrect information and leftist spin I scarcely know where to start. Guess I'll go point by point:

"the point isn't that cheney is killing his friends. the point is that cheney is out peppering his friends with birdshot while the inane war continues; that bush is lounging at trent lott's rebuilt palace while the masses of displaced new orleans homeless are out fending for themselves."

Nice Strawman. This is exactly the point of the article, my dear taboo. The antique media is busy creating scandals out of whole cloth about this administration. They have failed miserably in generating a modern day "Watergate" for this administration, and it's driving them completely berserk. The left is still using their political playbook from the 1970s, and the American public is just not buying the spin. Uh, if you want to believe the the VP taking a weekend off to relax and clear his head during a period of war that will likely last decades is a derelection of duty, I fear there is little I can say to dissuade you from this opinion. Personally, I would prefer that the Prez, VP, SOS, SOD, etc TAKE a break now and then. It helps keep things in perspective. We are involved in a global conflict where the stakes are dire: The survival of Western civilization. Face it or not taboo, that is where we are today. I am just thankful the American people were wise enough to see through the bullshit posturing of J F'in Kerry to elect a man infinately more suited for the job.

The reference to "lounging at trent lott's rebuilt palace while the masses of displaced new orleans homeless are out fending for themselves" is just disingenious of you. The Fed had *nothing* to do with the abject failure of the State and local govts. in LA. The Fed does *NOT* have the power to waltz in and usurp their power before a looming disaster. If you really want to point a finger, how about doing a bit of research on the thousands of school busses allowed to flood by Mayor Nagin? The very same busses that could have been used to evacuate thousands from NOLA DAYS before Katrina hit? Oh yeah. Media didn't mention that. What about the numerous manic e-mails sent from Gov. Blanco's office to her PR people obsessing about "what shall I wear for press conferences?" for THREE DAYS AFTER the hurricane hit, and Bush was begging her to declare a state of emergency so the Fed could roll FEMA assistance into the area. Hmmmm. Didn't hear about that from the MSM either, did ya?

Your image of "King George" eating peeled grapes in a refurbished palace while the poor of LA languish without assistance is just bunk. Hear about millions of FEMA dollars given to the displaced ending up paying for tattoos, prostitutes, Gentleman's Clubs and designer clothing? Gimme a break. The welfare state of Lousiana in general and New Orleans in particular is widely known.

Whereas I genuinely appreciate your comments, please get your facts straight before floating these leftist talking point in front of a guy that is too old, and way too tired to accept them as anything more than they are: Leftist Talking Points.

tMail me if you want cites for any of the points I've mentioned above, as I seem to have gotten rather windy already... :)
