Dumpster Diving on tBlog
08.15.06 (4:36 pm)   [edit]

Ran across this over at Mambo's blog:

DemocracyNow and AFP [Should have stopped reading right there... -ed]
13th August 2006
AFP Story:

The US government was closely involved in planning Israel's military operations against Lebanon's Hezbollah militia even before the July 12 kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers, a US magazine reported.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh writes in The New Yorker magazine that President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney were convinced that a successful Israeli bombing campaign against Hezbollah could ease Israel's security concerns and also serve as a prototype for a potential US preemptive attack to destroy Iran's nuclear installations.

Citing an unnamed Middle East expert [Emphasis mine. Apparently, "journalists" don't need no steekin' credible sources... -ed.] with knowledge of the current thinking of the Israeli and US governments, Hersh said Israel had devised a plan for attacking Hezbollah -- and shared it with Bush administration officials -- well before the July 12 kidnappings.

"When they grabbed the soldiers in early July, that was then a pretext" for Israel's assault on Hezbollah, Hersh said Sunday on CNN television.

Generally, liberal rants posing as new stories don't raise my blood pressure all that much, however, the following comment on the "source" site left me speechless:

"I have typed and retyped my response to this article so many times now but I simply cannot get across my sheer anger, sadness, frustration, despair and disgust at what can only be described as the most appaling waste of human life in the history of our planet.

I am almost at a loss for words as to how repugnant this is all getting.

I have little to say other than read the following and get ready for yet another war in yet another Muslim nation with yet further huge human and financial cost.

And remember, all of these pre-planned and pre-scheduled wars are taking place IN YOUR NAME.

If you know a soldier in either the US, UK or Israel then ask them, no, BEG them to resign their position or, if necessary, go AWOL. If these bastards have no soldiers left to sacrifice with no thought for their families then there cannot be another war, can there?

To be honest, I am sick and tired of hearing about all of the soldiers who are dedicated family men and women.

Family men and women do not go to other countries to kill other family men and women, leaving their families behind to pick up the pieces once they are dead.
[Emphasis mine. -ed.]

STOP FIGHTING FOR THEM AND THEY CANNOT START ANY MORE WARS."

Wow. The stupidity of this statement just astounds me.

I maintain, you spoiled little shit, that a *lot* of Family Men have put on a uniform, taken up arms, and faught and died to give you the right to make an absolute ass of yourself. Maybe you should move out of Mom's basement, and read a bit of history, needledick.

God I wish 14 year olds would stay the hell away from the Internet...

So, where do we go to get "real" news these days? Obviously, the quoted journalist has an agenda that skews his reporting. And surely a conservative journalist would do the same. What happened to the idea of reporting being fair and balanced, without a personal agenda? Is it impossible?

"a *lot* of Family Men have put on a uniform, taken up arms, and faught and died to give you the right to make an absolute ass of yourself."

Your entire outlook is made up of the idea that taking up those arms was the right thing to do. You're as far gone as the people who astound you and you can't even see it. Your selfrighteousness is apparent. So sure you're right and absolutely convinced that others are wrong. I hope 14 year olds stay away from the internet too, but for a much different reason.

OK, my nameless, faceless worthy opponent, let's break down your "argument."

First off, a "Straw Man" argument, followed by a "Tu Quoque." Compelling.

For the sake of amusement, let us proceed. My assertion was that many gave the ultimate sacrifice to ensure free speech and liberty to this country. Your Staw Man about "taking up those arms was the right thing to do", is a common logical fallicy. Was taking up arms against the Brittish to win our independance the right thing to do? Was defending ourselves against the Axis Powers in WWII the right thing to do? Much depends on yourt point of view, but I *know* there are times one must defend oneself, one's family, and one's country. If you fail to see that, then I pity you.

Secondly, your second argument, "You're as far gone as the people who astound you" is a Red Herring. "I can't refute your argument, so I'll say that 'you're just as bad!'". Of course, none of this matters to most people, becaused they have been indoctrinated with the "I feeeeel this is so, therefore it must be so" mindset.

Regardless of your opinion of the war against Islamofascism, your feelings have nothing to do with historical events.

OK, quiz time: Since you appear to feel that the current conflict is the wron course of action, what is your solution? Negotiations? Fine. You are sitting across a table from the "President" of Iran, who wants to convert every human being on the planet to Islamism by whatever means necessary. He has publicly and repeatedly called for the absolute destruction of Israel and all Jews.

What do you say to him?

You're a tool. I'd say the same thing to him that I'd say to Sharon or Olmert. The point is that there is no good guy or bad guy in this. You are clearly pro-Israel and anti-Muslim. There's not much difference between a leader who declares he's going to obliterate his enemy and one whose actions produce the same intent.

You're so busy labeling your arguments and counterpoints that you're missing the bus. Stop trying to make Israel out to be the good guys. They're not.

You fall back on history alot thoulou, and in doing so make a greivous error. You assume that documented history is in fact correct. The history books that you take as truth are skewed perspectives that only serve the political agendas of those who are in power. Remember, it's the conquerers who write your history. History does *NOT* equal truth.
